Because of slow I/O. To avoid this problem try to format USB drive in FAT16 and integrate SATA controller drivers into Windows Setup with nLite.

Can DriverPacks integrate SATA controller drivers into Windows Setup or just nLite?

I had SLOW install but I was setting up to an IDE hard disk.
Is it likely that I might need to rip OUT the default SATA
driver on my OEM INSTALL CD to speed it up?

Does opposite problem call for opposite solution?

When I thought about this it occurred to me that
in theory I could use WinToFlash to format a SATA
drive and see if it goes at something closer to
normal speed. That would confirm that it's the
SATA/IDE driver situation that is causing the SLOW
install, right?
