What do you mean - copy to cd? May be copy files from USB drive to HDD at blue (1st, text...) step of setup?

If copying on this step is slow you need to add your HDD controller's drivers to Windows setup. Press F6 when setup is loading or integrate them.

smartdrv.exe is the tool for Windows 95/98/ME, you can't use it in Windows XP setup process. (except DOS step)

May be you should try FAT16, not FAT32.

I know exactly what you are talking about.

When setting up the USB and copying the image on the flash drive via the flash software it takes ages, really quite slow...is that a USB 1 issue or is it something different?

You're computer might not support USB 2.0, which has the faster speed of 480Mbs, though USB 1.1 only does 12Mbs.

Try plugging the flash drive into another USB port, and if that fails, either put up with it or use a different computer to make the USB boot drive.

I had the same problem, but it worked when i used "Expert-Mode" and selected 'FAT16 LBA' as Support mentioned.

In startup choose the 'Task' folder.
Click the 'Create' Button.
In the 'File system' line choose 'FAT16 LBA

Let it finish and it should work better.
